I want to talk to you tonight about the challenge of prosperity. Patriotism is out of favor with the intellectuals now, but I believe that Britain is emerging into an age when she will be greater than ever. But I ask you to hold fast to this faith because this is our strength. What I’m looking for is the spirit of rededication, such as we feel at a coronation or at a royal birth. In these days when we are all enjoying greater luxury than ever before, with our unemployment benefits, with our family allowances, with our all age pensions, I believe that a new mood of self-discipline is abroad in our land. Our young people have never been infected by the disease of continental existentialism.
