1906, raking you over the coals

"If you complain to them, they'll just print another article raking you over the coals. The fact is, when they write something about you in the paper there isn't a thing you can do about it, regardless of whether it's true or false. You just have to live with it." If that's really the things are, we'd all be a lot better off if the newspapers were driven out of business, and the sooner the better. Getting written about in a newspaper is like getting bitten by a snapping turtle- once it latches onto you, it won't let go.
